Welcome Note from President of AFSN
and Organising Committee

Dear all colleagues,

The Asian Forensic Sciences Network (AFSN) is holding its 10th AFSN Annual Meeting & Symposium from 4th-8th September 2018 at the Beijing International Convention Center, Beijing, China.

AFSN has developed a lot since its foundation in 2008. There are already 47 member institutes from 15 countries and now 6 workgroups (DNA, Trace Evidence, Crime Scene Investigation, Illicit Drugs, Toxicology, and Digital Forensic) and a Quality Assurance & Standards Committee. During these years, AFSN has been providing an amazing platform for technical communication, training, quality enhancing and strategy developing for improving forensic science in Asia.

The theme for the symposium this year is “New Technologies, New Methods, New Challenges”. Forensic science has complex interaction with science, technologies and society. Indeed, forensic science has developed so much in the past decades and changed the way we pursue justice and against crime a lot, because of new technologies and methods continuously emerging. We are also facing new challenges now, as crime changes with the development of new technologies in this fast changing world. Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, forensic scientist must embrace and prepare for the new era coming. During this symposium, lots of experts from all over the world not only Asia will come together and share their opinions, new methods, new achievements and discuss how to support criminal justice system better.

Autumn is the most beautiful season in Beijing, a vibrant city that has a long history with hospitable people here. As my home institute, Institute of Forensic Science(IFS), Ministry of Public Security, China is trying its best to make the 10th meeting a successful forum and an unforgettable memory for all participants. We wish all forensic science community in Asia will benefit a lot during the meeting and discussion and all participants will enjoy days spent in Beijing.

Good friends feel close even when they are thousands of miles apart .We look forward to welcoming you to Beijing to attend the 10th AFSN Annual Meeting & Symposium in September 2018.
